The ship headed to anchorage near Butternut Bay, Ontario where it will await an inspection, which will likely occur on Thursday.
Nothing has been formally reported, but having the ship anchored for what will be more than 24 hours, it gives reason to believe there may be an issue due to exiting the channel.
Updated (11:47 a.m.) - Last night (Tuesday) after 10 p.m., a ship reportedly lost power not far from Blind Bay, just east of Dark Island. The ship, Eemsborg, was headed upbound when it reportedly lost power just past Crossover Island and is currently listed as stopped at Ironsides.
Ship traffic from Massena to Cape Vincent was stopped until just before 9 a.m. on Wednesday. Ship traffic began passing the disabled ship as of about 10:30 a.m.
Initial reports of a grounding, which we shared just before 7 a.m., have not been confirmed, though it is possible that the ship slipped out of the channel and bumped a nearby shoal. If it had entered a low water area, it may have quickly found a way back out. One source stated around 8 a.m. that the ship remains along the edge of the channel, but is not aground.
There have been no reports of damage or pollution.
